MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s army and allied clan militias, with support of US air strikes, seized the village of Qodqod in Galgadud region after brief fighting with Al-Shabaab militants, the government said on Saturday.
Somali government claimed that it had killed 30 militants in the fighting and air strikes conducted by the Horn of Africa country’s international partners.
It came a day after militants overran army bases in the town of El Lahelay in the same region, which had been recovered by the army just a few weeks earlier.
Militants released images purporting to show dead bodies of soldiers and a number of vehicles they seized during the gun battle. Via affiliated media, Al-Shabaab claimed killing 80 soldiers in the attack, though authorities denied the assertion.
