NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – Kenya’s Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki said on Tuesday the government of President William Ruto will defeat Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab militants after a string of deadly attacks in the country’s Northeastern and Coast provinces.
Kithure arrived in Wajir, Mandera and Garissa counties for “a series of engagements with Counties Security and Intelligence Committees, leaders and residents”, he tweeted.
“The Government shall defeat Al-Shabaab and all violent extremists who continue to threaten our national security and destabilise communities in North Eastern Kenya,” he added.
The visit comes weeks after the province hosted a string of Al-Shabaab attacks targeting Kenyan security forces. The region has seen an increase in violence against Kenyan military and police forces which authorities attribute to growing presence of militants in the counties that border war-torn Somalia.
