MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Two former Somali Prime Ministers Omar Abdirashid and Abdiweli Gas on Monday arrived in Puntland regional capital Garowe as part of efforts to mediate in escalating tensions in the region.
The visit came weeks after gun battles between troops loyal to the regional President Saeed Deni and opposition forces erupted in the town, forcing residents to leave their homes.
Cultural leaders and other political figures are set to gather in the town to lead efforts towards soothing recurrent tensions and ending the political wrangling in Puntland.
