MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – A suicide bomb attack targeted a military base in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Monday amid security tight, the country’s army said.
A man carrying suicide vest blew himself up at the gate of Jaalle Siyaad Military Academy in the capital Mogadishu after he was stopped by security guards. Soldiers had fired on the attacker before he detonated explosives, Somali army said in a statement.
The attack caused no harm to the soldiers inside the base, the statement added.
Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility, saying it had killed 6 soldiers and wounded 17 others in the assault. A similar suicide bombing targeted the base a few months ago, leaving dozens of soldiers dead and a number of others wounded.
