MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Ugandan court has begun the trial of two senior army officers in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu for alleged “cowardice” following an Al-Shabaab attack on a peacekeeper base in May.
The court chaired by Brig Gen Robert Mugabe is trying Maj Steven Oluka and Maj Zadock Obor, commanding officers of military bases in south Somalia over two counts of cowardice.
Other officers are also being tried over failure to protect war materials captured by the Somali insurgents, the Ugandan military said.
Ugandan leader Yoweri Museveni confirmed in May that 54 of his country’s peacekeepers were killed in an Al-Shabaab attack on a military base in Bulomareer.
