MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – A senior commander with Somaliland troops defected to local forces in control of the town of Lasanod in northern Somalia’s Sool region, officials said on Thursday.
The commander defected along with a number of soldiers and military vehicles as break-away region’s troops battle local forces seeking a reunification with Somalia.
The move followed defections by a number of regional officials over the past weeks.
