MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Puntland regional forces staging mutiny over unpaid salaries closed a key highway linking the central Somalia town of Galkayo to the capital Mogadishu, Garowe Online news website reported on Monday.
Images circulated on social media showed dozens of loaded trucks stranded outside a key checkpoint in northern Galkayo.
Efforts to help open the key highway deadlocked as the soldiers demand their salaries, threatening that the road will remain closed until regional government provides their pays.
It is not the first time Puntland troops mutinying over unpaid salaries have closed roads in one of the region’s cities, but a number of similar incidents have been recorded over the past years.
