MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Car bomb attacks killed at least 15 people and wounded more than 50 in two central Somalia towns on Saturday amid an ongoing offensive by Somali security forces, local officials said.

Speaking to VOA Somali, a local official in Jalalaqsi town in Hiran region said 4 people were killed and many more wounded after a car bomb exploded at a security checkpoint outside the city’s police headquarters. Some of the wounded were airlifted to the capital Mogadishu, he added.

Another suicide car bomb blast occurred in the town of Buloburde targeting the city’s district headquarters. The attack left more than 11 people dead and 52 wounded, a local health official told media.

Images circulated online showed devastation caused by the explosions in the two towns, where the government had mobilized clan militias fighting Al-Shabaab in the central region of Hiran.

Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for both attacks.
