MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – A young female spy agent, who went missing several months ago, has been handed to Al-Shabaab and is feared dead, officials with Somalia’s Intelligence Agency told VOA Somali, weeks after a member of parliament said she had been killed by agency officials for being in the loop of politically sensitive information.
Ikran Tahlil, who went missing on June 26 after she had been taken by a vehicle belonging to the Somali spy agency from her home overnight, is believed to have been killed, according to intelligence sources quoted by VOA Somali.
The young spy agent’s mother rejected the claims as “false”, saying that her daughter had been called by the Somali spy chief Fahad Yasin shortly before she left her home and that Al-Shabaab is unable to stage kidnapping attacks in the area where Ikran lived.
Al-Shabaab has not immediately commented on the claims which come weeks after parliamentarian Mahad Salad said the young woman had been killed for being in the loop of confidential information that the current acting president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and his spy chief Fahad Yasin deemed threat to re-election campaign.
Mr Salad added that Ikran may have been killed because she had information about thousands of missing recruits in Eritrea and later ended up in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, and an explosion that killed late mayor of the capital Mogadishu at his office last year.
