Claims of Bias Against Aid Workers in Ethiopia’s Tigray ‘Dangerous’: UN

Ethiopia

NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – The United Nations’ new humanitarian chief condemned “dangerous” accusations by the Ethiopian government that aid organizations were biased in favor of Tigray forces and that some were arming the rebels in the war-hit northern region, where fighting between the federal government troops and forces loyal to the region’s ruling party erupted in November of last year.

Martin Griffiths, speaking to reports at the end of a six-day visit to Ethiopia called for an unfettered humanitarian access to the region where hundreds of thousands of people are in desperate need of aid.

Blanket accusations of humanitarian aid workers need to stop,” he said.

They are unfair, they are nonconstructive, they need to be backed up by evidence if there is any and, frankly, it’s dangerous.”
