MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Members of Puntland regional troops staging mutiny over unpaid salaries closed a key highway linking Garowe, the capital of the northeastern Somali federal member state to the town of Galkayo, Caasimada Online news website reported on Monday.
Dozens of trucks carrying food and other supplies en route to central Somalia were stranded in the town of Harfo. Vehicles heading to the commercial port city of Bosaso were also refused permission to use the road due to the mutiny.
Puntland authorities have not yet commented on the development, which comes months after troops made similar moves.
