MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has met clan leaders of the central regions of Galgadud and Mudug amid military mobilization for a new showdown with Al-Qaeda-aligned Al-Shabaab militants.
Mohamud, who is currently in the central town of Dhusamareb for a working trip, is set to give the green light for military operations aimed at completing the first phase of an offensive against militants, deputy Minister of Information Abdirahman Yusuf said.
The President will stay there to boost the morale of soldiers participating in the offensive and will travel to a number of towns in the central regions during the offensive, he added.
Over the past days, authorities displayed images purporting to show hundreds of clan militias who have taken up arms to participate in the upcoming offensive.
