MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Puntland and Jubaland leaders are heading to the Somali capital, Mogadishu ahead of a meeting scheduled to be held to reach consensus over electoral models.
Delegations from the two regional states have arrived in Mogadishu on Saturday to pave the way for the visit of Ahmed Madobe and Saeed Deni.
The two regional leaders earlier boycotted the outcome of Dhusamareb conference between three federal member states and the federal government, in which an agreement was signed to hold an indirect election and to resize the number of delegates who will be electing MPs.
Following a meeting in the town of Garowe, the two regional leaders said they would attend a meeting in Mogadishu with other federal member states and the federal government to strike final agreement on electoral models.
Somali officials told media that Ahmed Madobe and Saeed Deni were expected to arrive in Mogadishu on Sunday and that the move aimed to carve out trust between dispirited regional leaders and the federal government.
During their visit to Mogadishu, the two regional leaders will stay at the presidential palace in what authorities describe as “restoration of hope” to displace concerns raised by the beleaguered regional presidents.
