MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – In a meeting held in Ankara, five of Somalia’s international partners, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar discussed the security situation in the war-torn Horn of Africa nation.
In a statement issued on Oct. 11, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said efforts to help rebuild Somalia’s security sector and support authorities in restoring peace in the country were among the key issues discussed in their fourth meeting.
“The partners reaffirmed their full support for the Federal Government of Somalia in its quest for achieving security and stability throughout the country. The partners also commended the remarkable determination displayed by the Somali National Army under the leadership of H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in the fight against Al-Shabaab,” the statement said.
“The partners discuss in detail the transition progress and the timeline of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), reviewed the progress on Somalia Security Sector Reform and subsequent steps to develop ways to better support Somalia.”
