MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The leader of northeastern Somalia’s Puntland region Saeed Abdullahi Deni has apologized over the controversial way his administration handled votes in which MPs representing the state in the two chambers of the federal parliament had been chosen in 2022, Caasimada Online news website reported on Sunday.

Speaking to cultural leaders in Mudug region, Deni made remarks aimed at soothing tensions in Galkayo over controversial local government elections his administration wants to hold across the state despite concerns raised by the opposition.

“If you have apologized over the looting (of seats) and other abuses that you committed in 2022, we accept your apology,” the elders told regional president.
