MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – At least seven people were wounded after mortar shells landed near Somalia’s presidential palace in Mogadishu on Tuesday, Universal TV reported.

The mortar rounds fell near the Ministry of Information, ex-Fiyore neighborhood, the presidential palace and SYL Hotel. The targeted area is located inside the security perimeter of the Somali president’s residence.

It came days after militants attacked the office of the mayor of Mogadishu inside the headquarters of Banadir regional administration in Mogadishu, killing at least five people. The area is one of the heavily-fortified and highly-protected zones in the city.

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that some of the mortar bombs had hit the presidential complex.
