MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Al-Shabaab gunmen who attacked Mogadishu mayor’s office on Monday were wearing the uniform of Eritrea-trained Somali troops, who had returned home this month, former MP Abdibare Yusuf Jibril said.
In an interview with Somali Cable TV, the former MP said the gunmen had been spotted walking in Hamarwayne neighborhood shortly before the deadly siege at the mayor’s office, adding that the attack was a significant blow to the government and showed the inability of security forces to protect the city’s third most important target.
“It reflected the degree of incapacity of security agencies,” Jibril said.
“People saw the gunmen walking and thought they were part of Eritrea-trained troops, who were heading to visit their relatives.”
