Airport security staff strike in Somalia’s capital prompts flight cancellations

Mogadishu

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Aviation security staff at Adan Adde International Airport in Somalia’s capital staged a strike on Thursday amid pay dispute, bringing the airport to a standstill and prompting flight cancellations.

Speaking to media, members of the staff said they had decided to stage the strike after a company running management of the airport ignored their demands over pay increase and violated their rights, urging Somali government to step in immediately.

A number of local and international flights were cancelled on Thursday due to security fears after the strike disrupted airport operations.
