MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Former Minister of Security for the semi-autonomous region of Jubaland Abdirashid Janan escaped, months after he said he defected to the federal government and allied himself with Somalia’s president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, Mogadishu-based Radio Kulmiye reported on Saturday.
Janan said on March 24 that he had pledged allegience to the current acting president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, whose troops and those of Jubaland administration have fought many wars in Gedo region since Ahmed Madobe was re-elected as the president of the semi-autonomous state.
The former regional official departed on his first trip to Ethiopia on June 19, accompanied by several government officials, including the state minister of Public Transport Abdirahman Kulmiye Hersi.
Sources within Somalia’s security agencies told Radio Kulmiye that Abdirashid Janan escaped from the government, though his whereabouts have not been immediately clear.
