NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s former prime minister Hassan Ali Khaire held meeting with the leader of opposition Forum for National Parties Sharif Sheikh Ahmed in Nairobi, in the course of which the two political figures discussed a number of issues pertinent to the current situation of the country.
Both Khaire and Ahmed are now running for president in Somalia’s upcoming elections and see cooperation between them as instrumental in challenging the incumbent president.
During meeting held behind closed doors in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi on Thursday Khaire apologized for violence and abuses committed against opposition figures during his tenure as prime minister, most of which he never addressed.
At a crucial moment in Somalia’s politics amid the rise of rival coalitions only a few months to go until elections, the two renowned opposition figures agreed on electoral cooperation to defeat the incumbent president who is now hell-bent on winning a second term in office.
Former prime minister Hassan Ali Khaire and opposition forum leader Sharif Sheikh Ahmed arranged other meetings to advance their talks further towards progress before the country goes to polls early next year.
