HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – Fighters of a new armed rebel group in Somaliland hijacked 2 vehicles belonging to the Halo Trust after capturing a village near the town of Odweyne in the break-away region.
Images circulated online showed the vehicles in the hands of the rebel fighters, who also disarmed guards at a mine-clearance office in Daba-gorayale village.
A video shared on social media showed residents in the town of Odweyne fleeing their homes after reports emerged of the rebel fighters approaching the town on Wednesday.
It came weeks after the rebel group was established in Ga’an Libah area near the port city of Berbera, vowing to oust the region’s incumbent President Muse Bihi Abdi for failure to hold presidential vote.
