MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Presidents of Somalia’s federal government Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the separatist region of Somaliland Muse Bihi Abdi on Thursday attended meeting in Djibouti to resume talks between the two sides, Villa Somalia said.
It is the second time the two presidents meet in Djibouti since Hassan Sheikh Mohamud returned to office last year.
The meeting was aimed at paving the way for talks between the governments of Somalia and Somaliland over the separatist region’s future after years-long hiatus.
The new round of talks starts at a time Somaliland is facing challenges, including conflict with SSC authorities after losing control of large swathes of territory in Sool and Togdheer regions to Harti clan militias.
