MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said on Monday he would hold a one man, one vote election in 2026 in which candidates from multiple parties will participate in the race for presidency.
It is not the first time a Somali leader has made such a pledge, but Mohamud’s predecessor Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo promised to hold a popular vote but failed to deliver on his pledge.
Speaking at the signing ceremony of a number of new legislations, Mohamud urged parliament to ratify laws that would guide the conduct of a peaceful and inclusive election in the war-torn Horn of Africa nation.
