Port-au-Prince (Somaliguardian) – Haiti’s president Jovenel Moïse was assassinated after a group of unidentified people attacked his private residence and the first lady Martine Moïse has been hospitalized, the country’s interim prime minister said in a statement on Wednesday.
The interim premier Claude Joseph condemned the attack as a “hateful, inhumane and barbaric act,” adding that security forces had the situation in the Caribbean country under control.
At round 1am on Wednesday July 7, an armed group, including some speaking Spanish, attacked the private residence of the president, mortally wounding the head of state. The first lady suffered bullet injuries, Joseph said, adding that he was now in charge of the country.
