CIA chief makes rare visit to Somalia as tensions escalate over Ethiopia-Somaliland MoU

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) William J. Burns made a rare visit to Somalia’s war-torn capital Mogadishu on Wednesday amid escalating tensions over Ethiopia’s move to lease land from Somaliland along the Red Sea, Villa Somalia said.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received the CIA chief in Mogadishu, his media office said.

“They discussed regional issues of mutual interest and enhancing Somalia-U.S. strategic partnership in critical areas, including the fight against international terrorism and promoting regional stability.”
