MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s government said on Thursday there is no room for mediation with Ethiopia unless Addis Ababa cancelled a memorandum of understanding with Somaliland that gives it access to a leased land along the Red Sea.
“There is no space for mediation unless Ethiopia retracts its illegal MOU and reaffirms the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia,” Somali Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
It came a day after reports emerged that Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud had declined to meet with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed amid simmering tensions over the controversial sea access deal.
