Somalia’s Federal and Regional Leaders Set to Meet on Elections

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble is due to convene a meeting with regional presidents on Thursday to discuss preparations on the upcoming parliament elections, funds allocated for the polls and plans for completing the electoral process, a government spokesman said on Sunday.

The prime minister and regional state leaders agreed to gather for a summit in the capital Mogadishu on Thursday, August 19, following a Zoom meeting held on Sunday, the spokesman added.

It comes amid a rift between the prime minister and the current acting president, and after recent Senate elections sparked transparency fears, with some of the opposition presidential candidates calling for a review into the electoral process.
