Several police officers feared dead in roadside blast in Kenya’s Garissa County

Kenya

NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – Several Kenyan police officers are feared dead after a roadside explosion targeted a vehicle they were traveling in Kenya’s Garissa County, local media reported on Tuesday.

The attack took place on the road linking Garissa to Dadaab targeting Border Patrol Unit, a local official said.

“We have reports of a police vehicle hit by an explosive but I am yet to know the exact number of casualties,” a local official told the Nation.

No one has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab often carries out assaults in the area. Dozens of people have been killed in Kenya’s Northeastern and Coast provinces by Islamist insurgents over the past months.
