Somaliland govt says will send elders to negotiate end to Lasanod conflict

Somaliland

HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland Vice President Abdirahman Sayli’i said on Wednesday the government will dispatch traditional leaders to Lasanod to negotiate an end to clashes ongoing in the northern Somali town.

He urged clan leaders in the town to welcome their counterparts from Hargeisa, promising that authorities will accept the terms of any agreement signed by the elders on their behalf.

It comes after weeks of confrontations between Somaliland troops and local forces seeking reunification with Somalia. The fighting has left dozens of people dead and forced tens of thousands from their homes.
