MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The leader of the northeastern semi-autonomous region of Puntland Saeed Abdullahi Deni on Thursday accused the federal government of oppressing residents in restive southern Somali region of Gedo.
In a speech to regional parliament, Deni said he was concerned about renewed tensions in the restive region, days after Jubaland leader formed a parallel administration for Gedo, prompting rebuke from officials in control of the region.
“It is unfortunate that the federal government is oppressing people in Gedo region,” Deni said, adding that the federal authorities should not take actions similar to those that had led to the ouster of their predecessors.
