MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Leader of the Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab Abu Ubeyda appeared in a new video giving an interview to group-affiliated media after attending a conference that hosted more than one hundred delegates.
Speaking while his face was blurred, the Islamist leader commented on the ongoing military operations by the Somali army and international partners, saying that his fighters had defeated their “enemy” in the first phase of the offensive and seized massive stockpiles of weapons and military equipment.
He added that a recent conference attended by group leadership and traditional leaders and religious scholars affiliated with Al-Shabaab had focused on issues including an upcoming offensive by Somalia’s frontline states, economic war declared by Somali President and the socio-economic situation of the Horn of Africa nation.
