HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi on Tuesday appointed a committee to launch probe into casualties inflicted by recent opposition protests demanding timely presidential election.
The committee would establish the cause of deaths of several protesters and who is to blame for the losses, according to the President. In a video message, Bihi said last week opposition leaders would be held responsible for the casualties.
The leaders of Waddani and Ucid parties accused police of using live ammunition against peaceful protesters and said at least 7 people were killed, with more than 100 wounded. They dismissed President’s remarks that police officers were among the casualties.
Some of the protesters killed on Thursday were buried in Hargeisa on Wednesday in a funeral event attended by opposition leaders and supporters.
