MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland authorities on Thursday distanced themselves from the killing of a prominent poet Jama Kadiye in a mortar attack on a residential area in Lasanod on Wednesday.
SSC authorities in control of the town of Lasanod condemned the killing, accusing Somaliland troops of being behind the shelling that resulted in the death of the renowned poet.
In a statement, Somaliland alleged that Al-Shabaab, an Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group in south Somalia was behind the attack. Authorities in the break-away region often accuse the militant group of being involved in the war raging in Lasanod, though they have not yet given evidence for their claims.
Both SSC and Al-Shabaab earlier dismissed claims by Somaliland that militants were actively involved in Lasanod conflict.
