Somalia Mogadishu explosion attack

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) –A massive explosion at a military base in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu has killed at least eight people and injured more than 15 others, military officials say.

Witnesses who saw the blast occur, told local media that a car loaded with explosives driven by a suicide bomber was detonated inside a military facility home to the 27th brigade of Somalia’s national army.

The targeted military base is located right behind newly renovated Mogadishu stadium which was earlier targeted with mortar bombs during its inaugural ceremony and since then has been closed to all football events.

The explosion could be heard across the capital city, according to residents in Mogadishu.

No one has yet claimed responsibility, but the Islamist group Al-Shabaab often carries out bombings and direct attacks targeting security forces, government officials and foreign troops in Somalia.

Earlier this week nearly 9 security officers and troops were killed and more than a dozen others wounded after a suicide bomber blew himself up inside a popular restaurant in the capital, mostly attended by government officials.
