MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Mogadishu’s Adan Adde Airport has been closed temporarily and all incoming flights diverted to other airports on Saturday, officials say, hours after Kenyan cargo plane crashed into the fence of the airport while landing, injuring at least two of its crew.
Airport authorities have told media that the Kenyan aircraft crashed into the fence of the airport and failed to land on runway.
Several local and international flights were diverted among which were Ethiopian and Turkish airlines that were forced to either return to Ethiopia or Djibouti.
All airport operations have been suspended until 3:00 pm local time, airport officials told somaliguardian, adding that cleaning efforts are underway to remove debris from runways.
A number of passenger planes are currently stranded at airports in the cities of Kismayo, Garowe, Hargeisa and Baidoa all bound for Mogadishu.
