At least 7 Kenyan Soldiers Killed in Bomb Attack in Somalia

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – At least 7 Kenyan soldiers have been killed on Monday in a bomb attack on the outskirts of Hosingow town on Somalia’s border with Kenya, local officials have confirmed.

The attack comes only two days after roadside bomb explosions targeting Kenyan military convoy left many soldiers dead and wounded a number of others. Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab militant group said it had killed 17 KDF soldiers and wounded several others in those attacks on Saturday.

Another explosion hit a Kenyan military vehicle transporting troops in the vicinity of Hosingow in the Middle Juba region, an area which has been under the control of KDF since its incursion into Somalia in 2011.

At least 7 Kenyan soldiers were killed in the attack, local Somali officials have said, adding that a Senior Kenyan military officer identified as Holland was among the dead.

Militant group Al-Shabaab said it had carried out the attack just 4 days before the anniversary of 15 January 2016 deadly El Adde attack on a Kenyan military camp that left nearly 200 KDF soldiers dead.

Kenya’s military has not immediately commented on the explosion, the latest in a series of attacks which have targeted its troops in south Somalia over the past few days.
