MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s disputed federal electoral commission has chosen a chairman and his deputy as an alliance of opposition presidential candidates still insists on calls for its dissolution.
The commission said on Saturday that it elected Mohamed Hassan Mohamed as its chairman in an event that had in attendance 20 members out of a total of 25 commissioners.
It has chosen Mawlid Matan as the deputy chairman of the electoral commission.
The move has come shortly after spokesman for the opposition presidential candidates repeated calls for the revocation of federal and regional electoral commissions allegedly comprising intelligence agents, state employees and popular supporters of the incumbent president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
