HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi told his supporters not to elect him if he fails holding the presidential election on its due date.
In a speech to Kulmiye party supporters at a ceremony held in the capital, Hargeisa President Bihi said he would not serve beyond his term, telling the Somaliland public not to elect him to office again if he does not hold elections within 9 months, as agreed with opposition parties in a recent meeting.
Mr Bihi stressed that parliament houses and local municipalities are unlawfully serving beyond their terms and that forthcoming elections are sought to bring fresh people to the country’s political spectrum, calling on citizens to elect people who are able to take Somaliland forward.
In an apparent stern message to the houses of parliament, the President said Somaliland executive and legislative branches should be elected in every five years as ordained by the constitution.
