HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – Taiwan has officially launched its representative office in the Somaliland capital Hargeisa on Monday, a few weeks after the two unrecognized states announced bilateral relations.
Taiwanese diplomats have officially launched Taipei’s representative office in Hargeisa on Monday morning during a highly organized ceremony.
Taiwan’s national flag has been raised at a building designated to serve as the country’s representative office in Somaliland. The event had in attendance Somaliland and Taiwanese officials.
The launching of the representative office is a cornerstone for the burgeoning relations between the two unrecognized states, officials say.
In the past few weeks, China has been going all out to win back Somaliland, Taiwan’s last African ally, dispatching top diplomats to Hargeisa who told president Bihi to review ties with Taipei in return for development assistance. Somaliland leader rejected the offer and its aggregate plea.
