MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) –A senior national intelligence officer was killed in a roadside bomb explosion that occurred in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Wednesday night, police and militants said, in the latest such incident by Al-Shabaab islamist group.
Somali security officials told Somaliguardian on Thursday that an intelligence officer identified as Colonel Nur was killed in a bomb explosion targeting his vehicle in Mogadishu’s Wabari district.
Two of his bodyguards also wounded in the attack claimed by Al-Shabaab islamist group.
The group has recently stepped up its insurgency campaign against Somalia’s western backed government and allied African Union troops.
On Saturday, at least 20 soldiers were killed in a car bomb attack on a heavily fortified military base in the capital with more than 30 others wounded.
