NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – Fighters of the militant group Al-Shabaab attacked a Kenyan police outpost in northeastern Kenya’s Mandera County.
Heavily armed militants launched an attack on a Kenyan police outpost in Shir town in Mandera County on Tuesday night and briefly exchanged gunfire with officers there.
Al-Qaeda-linked Islamist group Al-Shabaab has said it was behind the assault, claiming to have briefly taken over the town.
Residents told media on Wednesday that militants destroyed a telecommunications mast belonging to Safaricom Company, adding to dozens of attacks by the group on Kenya’s telecommunications infrastructure.
Kenyan government has not immediately commented on the attack, which is the 4th of its kind to be carried out by the militants in Mandera County this month.
