MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – A hotel in Somalia’s Presidential Palace has been shut down following the attendance of Al-Shabaab members, who later demanded its owner to either pay Zakat money or face severe consequences.
Gobsoor Restaurant inside the Somali President’s Palace, the Villa Somalia has been locked down due to insecurity after two members of the Islamist group, Al-Shabaab checked in its partner hotel, according to members of the presidential guards.
The two men stayed in the hotel for close to 24 hours and ordered the owner of the restaurant and its partner hotel to pay Zakat money or will be forced out of business.
The owner of Gobsoor Restaurant and Hotel contacted members of the Presidential Guard unit to seek their help but they found that the men had checked out safely.
A member of Somalia’s presidential guards told somaliguardian that both the restaurant and the hotel – popularly attended by high-profile government officials – has since been locked down over fear of Al-Shabaab attacks.
