MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – At least three people wounded in a barrage of mortar shells targeting the presidential compound in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu on Saturday night, witnesses said.
Some of the mortar bombs landed outside the palace and triggered panic among state employees and officials, hours after a car bomb exploded at a busy junction targeting a government convoy, killing more than 9 people.
Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab said it had carried out both attacks and fired 7 mortar rounds into the residence of the current acting president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
Local security officials have not immediately commented on the assault, which is part of a series of militant attacks on government targets in the capital over the past weeks.
