ADDIS ABABA (Somaliguardian) – Clashes between troops within the Ethiopian Army occurred in a military base in the town of Qabridahar in the country’s restive Somali region, local sources have confirmed on Monday.
At least 3 soldiers are said to have been killed with more than 10 others wounded following a gunfight that continued for more than an hour inside a military base.
Local officials have not yet briefed media about what may have triggered the fighting, but sources told press that it was part of ethnic tensions stoked by recent Tigray region move to hold elections in defiance of federal government calls.
More recently, current political crisis in Ethiopia have led to tensions among Ethiopian armed forces as the government of PM Abiy goes all out to bring the situation under control.
