MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Kenyan cargo plane crashed into a fence at Adan Adde airport in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, officials have confirmed on Saturday.
The 5Y-MHT aircraft, said to have been operated by a Kenya-based airline company ran into the fence of Mogadishu’s Adan Adde airport while on landing.
The plane sustained substantial damage with at least three of its crew rescued after the crash. Rescue mission is still underway, according to airport authorities.
The cause of the crash is so far unknown, but aircraft accidents have increased in Somalia over the past few months. Another cargo plane chartered by the African Union troops crashed at Ogas Khalif airport in Beledwayne a few months ago.
Several local and international flights have been diverted and Adan Adde airport has been shut soon after the plane crash occurred early on Saturday morning. Efforts to clean the airport runways are still underway.
