MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s federal government on Tuesday raised a “deep concern” about the violence going on in South Africa in which “four Somalis were killed” and a number of others wounded.
In a statement issued by the Somali foreign ministry, the government said shops belonging to Somali nationals had been looted in separate attacks in KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa by “thugs” in the past 72 hours.
“Somalia calls on South African government to exert all efforts to protect Somali nationals from brutal acts, to ensure the safety of their lives, their shops and the preservation of their rights,” the statement reads.
“Somalia is proud of its historic relations with the people of South Africa during their struggle against apartheid and the extent of multiple political, economic and strategic support it provided over a period of time.”
