MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) –Somalia’s speaker of parliament Mohamed Mursal and his deputy Abdiwali Sheikh Ibrahim Mudey held a meeting with the leaders of opposition Forum for National Parties.
The meeting was held behind closed doors onTuesday evening at the headquarters of FNP in Mogadishu. The two sides discussed issues which include holding timely elections and showing restraint to avoid any thing that can disrupt peaceful transition of power.
Opposition leaders Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud and Sharif Sheikh warned of delay in elections that can lead the country to political and security crisis, assuring parliament leadership that opposition parties are ready to cooperate with all political stakeholders on reaching consensus over issues pertinent to elections.
According to FNP officials who spoke to Somaliguardian, their leaders reiterated that they would not accept mandate extension for the country’s executive and legislative branches.
