Somalia’s FM Sacked over Statement on Ethiopia’s Conflict

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has sacked the country’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Eise Awad over a statement calling for dialogue between Ethiopia’s federal government and TPLF leaders as conflict in Tigray region spirals out of control.

In a statement published a short while ago, the Somali Prime Minister announced the dismissal of Foreign Minister Ahmed Eise Awad and replaced him with Mohamed Abdirisak Mohamud.

Mr Awad has been appointed as ambassador but the statement has not specified the country to which he was accredited.

The Former Foreign Affairs Minister was one of a number of politicians who retained their posts after Mohamed Hussein Roble had been appointed as Somalia’s new Prime Minister following the ouster of Hassan Ali Khaire in a parliament vote of no-confidence.

Officials at the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs say the dismissal of Mr Awad is related to a statement issued by the Ministry on Wednesday, which called for dialogue between Ethiopia’s warring sides to “amicably end conflict” in the country.

The statement has been removed shortly after it was posted on social media and Mr Awad denied it had been issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
